The Astrological Natal Chart: A Cosmic Map

‘That which is above is from that which is below, and that which is below is from that which is above.’ - Hermes Trismegistus : Emerald Tablet

‘As within, so without; as above, so below; as the universe, so the soul.’ - the modern translation of original hermetic principle.

The world of astrology was introduced to me during childhood through diverse means, I warmly recall from two distinctive ‘vehicles’. One was within the visual symbology of zodiac signs referenced from weekly horoscopes in the newspaper, and the other was met again and again while eating out at the local family Chinese restaurant - though this time it was through the Chinese zodiac printed on the placemats. It was apparent that the symbolism, mysterious nature and storytelling of traditional wisdom traditions had stirred a lifelong pursuit of learning and immersing myself into the more occult or at the very least, ‘alternative’ paths of understanding life through another lens that was not so known, common or enthusiastically encouraged within at least the sphere of childhood life I had in a small country town in Australia in the early 2000’s.

Fast forward to today where access to such esoteric/occult knowledge can come into presentation through many forms and formats - whereby slowly yet surely adding to exposure in modern vernacular via online and in-person reference. Thankfully, the language of the stars continues to weave itself into wider recognition and consideration through its systematic, symbolic and archetypal guidance lens through which to ‘travel’ through life with. A lens through which I have very much approach through the eyes of an ‘everyday explorer’ and Soulful Traveller.

This week I share episode #3 of an audio series named ‘Cosmic Companions’ [more can be read on the motivations behind the weekly series on my substack (!)]. The 8 episode audio series is an alternative introduction to approaching astrology as a self-reflective tool to ‘travel inward’, and to understand the interconnectedness between each of our ‘inner world’ in relation to the ‘outer world.’

The two introductory quotes shared at the beginning will not be a surprise to anyone already connected with or practicing astrology. What makes astrology the lifetime venture of exploration and integration it is - includes the very fact that it leaves room for allowing life’s mystery to work in hand amidst the intentional efforts and actions one decides upon. In living with the material reality of life, there also lays space to consider what encompasses the intangible, unseen forces that contribute to the movement and transformation of energy. Just as the element of air cannot be seen to the eye though its effects are clear from its impact on what we feel in our body and also through observation of movement in object, climate and the natural world - so to does the hermetic principle of ; ‘That which is above is from that which is below, and that which is below is from that which is above.’ & / ‘As within, so without; as above, so below; as the universe, so the soul.’

Put simply the principle of that which is above is from that which is below … invites a consideration of the interrelation between macrocosm and microcosm. The vast system of the universe, of worldly order in relation to the in comparison smaller-scale version encompassed by the bodily systems which the human body consists of. The use of this principle can very much be allocated to any scale of networks that differ yet encompass a whole system.

To introduce this concept of exploring the Cosmic Map of ones’ natal chart also serves as example of this analogy - specifically as a supportive means of awakening and enriching the journey of life, to ‘know thyself’ through correspondence with the movements and symbolism of cosmic forces of the natural world. To consider that as within, so without… sheds light on another means of perspective upon which to view our inner processes and internal dialogue in relation to the external experiences and relationships encountered - engaging in an interplay of dialogue in its own manner.

I write this article in response to the growing interest in astrology of many around me, where much can be passionately spoken about in theory - yet that asks to be experimented with directly, personally.

If the language of Astrology has spoken to you in any way, or if you find yourself holding many pieces of information on the unique facets and elements of what form the wholeness of You, yet are now finding yourself wanting to know how all these ‘pieces’ influence and impact each other through a united, big-picture and holistic perspective - then I’d be honoured to connect with you and interpret your birth chart. Booking an online session with me is simple, through Your Inner Compass . Sacred Transitions can be the beginning of a deeper, harmonious, more meaningful relationship with your unique nature and soul path, with the world at-large and those around you.
